St Edmundsbury Cathedral ‘Power Cut' UFO Has Multiple Witnesses (Nov-Dec 2008)

Reports are still coming (Dec 11th 2008) in regarding the Bury St Edmunds UFO sighting. (The UFO was spotted on the 29th November 2008). According to one of the witnesses it was of a ‘classic' flying saucer, i.e. metallic grey and appeared to be spinning. The media reports which were posted online were quick to point out that back on the 3rd September 2008, a UFO was reported to be spinning and tilting over houses in the area (Mildenhall and Howard estates).

Perhaps a more interesting (and corroborated) aspect of this particular UFO report is regarding the two power-cuts that seemingly accompanied the sighting and is suggested to have heralded its appearance. Back in the day the interruption of electrics, electrical interference, internal combustion engines malfunctioning or failing etc. were reported along with UFO sightings & experiences a great deal more than in recent times and if believed (and in the majority of cases there's no reason not to) is certainly an intriguing and physical side effect of these encounters. This has also been reported in some other 'high profile' UFO reports .....

Here's part of an article posted by the Bury Free Press on the 1st December:

UFO sighting over Bury St Edmunds (Cathedral) Sat 29th Nov (2008)
Bury Free Press UFO Report
(Published 1st December 2008)

An anonymous witness stated:

"I looked up at the sky - I was quite frightened. There was a grey thing spinning around and around. About four or five other people were looking up at the sky….."It went around the cathedral and then disappeared. Then I saw this bright orange ball fly through the sky from Churchgate Street towards the churchyard….. I'm just puzzled by it all."

He said a friend had subsequently suggested the sighting might have been something to do with the Christmas fair in the Abbey Gardens and on Angel Hill.

A police spokeswoman said: "We did have a report of a large object in the sky for approximately 10 to 12 minutes that looked like a UFO," adding that police had only received one report regarding the sighting.

Then on the 5th December the East Anglian Daily Times (online) confirmed a second witness:

UFO spotted above Cathedral (5th December 2008)
East Anglian Daily Times

Bury St Edmunds UFO sightingThe UFO was spotted above St Edmundsbury Cathedral. POLICE were alerted after a UFO was spotted above St Edmundsbury Cathedral. New twist in UFO mystery. The UFO was spotted above St Edmundsbury Cathedral

A UFO spotted above St Edmundsbury Borough Cathedral was seen by a member of staff, it emerged today. Police were first notified about a UFO above the cathedral in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday night. The incident, which lasted just minutes, happened in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday night. It is understood the man saw the grey UFO spinning in the air near the cathedral before disappearing behind the Bury landmark.

But it has now emerged a member of the cathedral's own staff saw the UFO as well.

The cathedral's visitor officer Sarah Friswell said: “I mentioned it at our staff meeting yesterday and a member of staff did see 'it' as well. But I have to say no-one else has commented or 'phoned or mentioned it…..It happened in between two short power cuts, so we wondered if it was linked to that .”

A police spokeswoman said: “We received a report at 10.43 pm on Saturday from a gentleman who said he'd seen a large object spinning in the sky for around 10 to 12 minutes, which looked like a UFO. This was the only report received."

The apparent sighting comes just four months after similar reports of a UFO above the town's Mildenhall and Howard estates. Eyewitnesses told how, on September 3, they saw an object at about 9.30pm spinning and tilting above houses and appeared to change colour.

And also on the 5th December AllTheWeb.com ran the following story, as 'AllTheWeb' is an Australian based website I'm assuming that due to extensive media coverage that the UFO phenomenon is currently receiving in Australia explains why they ran it. This is only an excerpt as the original article goes well beyond conjecture and into plain fantasy. Prefixed with, “There are some people who believe…..” before wandering into wholly unsubstantiated supposition and equally outlandish hypotheses, that's not necessarily a criticism (in this case) just the reasoning behind its exclusion:

UFO causes power cuts in the UK (5th December 2008)

UFO over Cathedral Causes power cuts in UK historic town

AllNewsWeb - UFO ReportLast Saturday night a slightly luminous grey UFO was reported to police in the historic town of Bury St Edmunds in the United Kingdom . The UFO was seen spinning and hovering over the St Edmundsbury Cathedral by a townsman. Now it has emerged that the UFO was also seen by a staff member of the Cathedral. Sarah Friswell, the Cathedrals visitor officer, noted that the topic of the mysterious craft had come up in a staff meeting and one of the staff members confessed to also witnessing the rather clear UFO of a very ‘Classical' appearance.

More interestingly the sighting was accompanied by unusual power cuts, confirmed by the Cathedral administration that could not be explained by the local electricity provider. Many have claimed that such sightings are in fact pranks by hobbyists involving RC flying models, yet the power cut seems to somewhat disprove this theory as it is unlikely any hobbyist could pull such a feat off.

And the ‘East Anglian Daily Times' posted another article in which a Mrs Carol Marsh “who lives in the shadow of St Edmundsbury Cathedral” also reports witnessing the UFO. The following was posted on the 9th December:

More sightings of UFO over Suffolk (9th December 2008)
East Anglian Daily Times

UFO fever is taking hold in a Suffolk town as tales of mysterious flashing lights over Suffolk 's mother church abound.

Fresh reports of the “amazing” light show over Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, November 29, have come in from resident Carol Marsh, who lives in the shadow of St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Mrs Marsh said she and a group of friends watched entranced at around 10.30pm as the lights travelled low in the sky from Northgate Street , over the cathedral and neighbouring St Mary's Church and out of sight towards Southgate Street .

And Mrs Marsh is no stranger to the supernatural - when she was an 11-year-old girl she firmly believes she witnessed a flying saucer in the skies over her then home in Lincolnshire . Her father, a Lancaster bomber pilot, was so convinced by his daughter's story he called ministry of defence bosses to check out the mysterious sighting. The Church Walks resident was less convinced her latest brush with little green men was for real, but she believes there was a chance the sighting over the town could have been a UFO: “It's certainly a possibility."

“It was the weekend of the Christmas fair and I suppose they could have been sending up some sort of lights from Angel Hill but what ever it was, it was absolutely amazing.....The lights were low in the sky, very bright and seemed to be revolving. It was totally noiseless and for 45 seconds it lit up the sky - it was just incredible - an amazing thing going on the sky outside my house. The amber lights were almost like they were being fired up into the sky.”

One sky-watcher reported the strange lights to the police. He said he saw a grey UFO spinning in the air near the cathedral before disappearing behind the Bury landmark.

The report was confirmed by a police spokeswoman, who said:

“We received a report at 10.43 pm on Saturday from a gentleman who said he'd seen a large object spinning in the sky for around 10 to 12 minutes, which looked like a UFO. This was the only report received.”

A spokeswoman for the cathedral said a staff member also saw the unexplained lights.

Bury St Edmunds UFO sighting

So now there are three independent witnesses who have come forward and at the time of writing (12th December 2008) the following article posted (again) on the AllNewsWeb.com website is the latest piece of information to be released. It was submitted by an internet user called, “Susan.” According to the website and after a cursory glance her personal details had at least superficially checked out.

More witnesses come forward claiming to have seen the
St Edmundsbury Cathedral UFO (11th December 2008)

AllNewsWeb - UFO ReportFurther witnesses have come forward claiming to have seen a UFO hovering over St Edmundsbury Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk , UK on Saturday night. One of the witnesses, Carol Marsh, lives within the proximity of the Cathedral and says she and a group of friends saw dazzling lights she describes as 'amazing' swirling above the Cathedral Spires. Local Police have confirmed that they received the report first mentioned in All News Web. 'We received a report at 10.43 pm on Saturday from a gentleman who said he'd seen a large object spinning in the sky for around 10 to 12 minutes, which looked like a UFO. This was the only report received.' noted a police spokeswoman.

All News Web received this email yesterday:

“I read your story on the UFO near the Cathedral, I live about one mile from there. I am employed as a nurse and have never claimed to have seen a UFO before although that night I noticed the strangest thing as I looked out of my bedroom window, a blurry disc like object moving quickly that appeared to be circling the Cathedral and then vanished-the object appeared to be black with a glow around it. I noticed slight electrical surges of lights in the vicinity. I work in health and would rather remain anonymous as I don't want to be labelled as stark, raving mad!”

The alleged witness allowed us to identify her as Susan, and has supplied us with further personal details that seem to suggest personal credibility.

More UFO Sightings Over Fenland Skies (Wisbech)

Fenland Citizen UFODOZENS of people have contacted the Citizen to report sightings of UFOs in the skies over Fenland following last week's front page picture of some unexplained lights spotted over Wisbech. Among those who rang in was Doreen Annetts from March who said she had seen a similar set of lights as she drove home early on Tuesday morning after dropping her husband off at work.

She spotted the lights over-head as she travelled along the Twenty Foot from Hobbs Lot Bridge at around 5am. Mrs Annetts said the lights were very bright and looked to be in the same formation as those captured on film by a 23-year-old Wisbech man on Monday November 17 and featured in last week's Citizen: “ I knew it wasn't an aeroplane because they usually have various little lights. I'm not somebody who imagines things.

• Michael Marshall from Bourne also called to say he had seen the lights. He spotted them from his hill-top home at around 9.15pm on November 18. He said they had come in from an easterly direction and were moving over Wisbech.

• And a Chatteris man said his daughter had captured some lights on her camera phone a couple of months ago. He said they were coloured and there were lots of them.

• A March woman told how she had spotted a bright light track across the sky as she looked out of the bedroom window of her Green Street home. She had believed it was a shooting star at first but then noticed it was leaving a trail behind it. She saw it at around 9pm to 9.30pm on Tuesday.

• And a Wimblington couple also spotted a strange orange light in the sky over their Norfolk Street home. They spotted it at around 10.55pm on Children in Need night. They said the object moved silently through the sky before suddenly disappearing. “ We get a lot of jets over this area and they are noisy. This was quiet and was quite spooky .”

• And finally Reg Wenn from Chatteris sent in a photo of an object he captured from his home in Acre Fen: “ I have been tracking one of these for over 16 years, it appears in the sky south of my home from time to time, I managed to get a picture of it a few weeks back .”

Police Helicopter ‘Swerves' To Avoid UFO

From what we've been told so far then this particular report is certainly a strange one and again involving a police helicopter which I wrote about back in June, “UK UFO – Police Helicopter Crew Reports UFO.” Anyway here's the more recent report as originally posted by the Birmingham Mail on the 21 st November, 2008 but actually occured almost 5 weeks prior to the earlier report.

UFO involved in a dramatic incident.

A POLICE helicopter flying over Birmingham narrowly avoided tragedy when it nearly collided with a UFO, a report has claimed. The pilot managed to swerve out of the mystery aircraft's way while he was on a routine police surveillance task over the city centre earlier this year. The helicopter was also carrying two police observers during the journey at around 9.50pm on May 2nd.

All three reported seeing an aircraft with two continuous blue/green lights – but were unable to identify what it was. The extraordinary incident is detailed in a document compiled by experts from the Airprox Board, which records near misses and reports them to the military and air traffic control units.

The report stated: “ The front observer saw unidentified lights flying around their aircraft. The pilot established visual contact, as he manoeuvred the aircraft to avoid a collision and to identify the light source.

The object was less than 100m away and flew around them. The pilot told the Airprox Board he thought the intent may either have been sinister or just someone messing around. It was initially believed that the object was a radio controlled aircraft and that it was purposefully flown around the helicopter.

The report stated: “He (the pilot) believes the lights may have come from a radio controlled fixed wing aircraft, the lights being to assist with night flying.

Despite searching the area with a thermal camera, the pilot was unable to find any signs of radio-controlled model activity. And the British Model Flying Association ruled out the possibility, saying the mystery object was flying too high to be a miniature craft. Leading expert Nick Pope, who previously worked for the Ministry of Defence's UFO desk and is nicknamed the British Fox Mulder, told the Birmingham Mail today:

“A helicopter was nearly blown out of the sky…..This is a very disturbing incident which needs to be thoroughly investigated by the MoD and the Civil Aviation Authority as well as other near misses…..The conclusion on the report is unsatisfactory especially when this aircraft came within seconds of a collision. It is a very interesting case especially when you look at the eyewitnesses. They are credible and reliable sources who have experience in night time flying…..This sighting clearly illustrates that whatever one believes about UFOs, this incident raises important air safety issues and should be taken seriously.”

The Official Airprox summary is in a PDF file and it's quite large (668 Kb) and this event is only referenced in 3 pages of it, alternatively you can view the three pages in question by visiting here.

Sunderland UK UFO: Cylindrical UFO Sighting – Wednesday 29th October, 2008

The following was recently posted to the UFOCasebook forum by a new member who signed up to report the sighting and also to ask for any information regarding it:

Wed 29th Oct, 2008 – Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, North-East England.

"At around 9.00am, I was looking out of a west-facing upstairs window in my house when I saw an airliner coming from the north and heading roughly southwest at maybe 2,000 – 3,000 feet. It was clearly visible and stood out against a cloudless blue sky. I watched the plane for a few seconds before I realised there was something wrong with what I was looking at – the body of the plane was very wide and it was travelling too slowly for an airliner at that height. I grabbed a small pair of 10x25 binoculars and was able to focus on the plane for maybe half a minute before it moved out of sight behind nearby trees.

Through the binoculars I could see it wasn't an airliner, but a rocket-shaped cylinder – cream or off-white in colour – travelling horizontally like a cruise missile. There were no wings or fins, no markings, no flashing lights, and no flames or smoke trail. The front of the cylinder was definitely pointed and the end was solid, with no darkened area to suggest a jet exhaust.

Guessing the altitude to be 1,000 feet, I estimated the cylinder to be about 50 feet long (but this could all be way out) and I came to the conclusion that it must be some sort of balloon drifting in the wind. To confirm this theory, I emailed the UK Met Office on Thursday morning who told me the wind direction at 9.00am on Wednesday was westerly. This means the object was travelling against the wind under its own power. Very difficult to estimate its speed, but I would guess around 100 - 150mph.

I'm sure no self-respecting alien would be seen dead travelling around in a magnolia-painted space craft so I'm assuming the cylinder originated on this planet. Whatever it was, the sky was so clear it must have been seen by dozens if not hundreds of people as it headed southwest from the north of England . If anybody saw it or knows what it was, would you please enlighten me.

The National Archives Second Release Of MoD UFO Files (20th Oct 2008)

Well it seems as if the second release of previously classified Ministry Of Defence (MoD) UFO files is due for release on the Monday the 20th October 2008.

I personally thought that the previous release and more importantly the incessant and outlandish media coverage of it was almost single-handedly responsible for what became known as, “The 2008 British UFO Wave” and elaborated on why in some detail here.

Indeed, it was almost impossible to have missed the furore regarding the MoD release of their "UFO files" back in May as it was all over the web, the television and the media for several weeks. The event was covered by many different authors at many different venues in many, many different countries. The relentless media coverage (especially in the UK ) was unparalleled for a UFO related story as for at least a few days in May 2008, UFOs certainly went mainstream.

To see and appreciate the extent of the coverage I've correlated it into some loose semblance of order, due to the lists of reports and the amount of media footage it wasn't possible to include them all in one Blog post, so I'll only post a couple of clips here. (Main post here)

Also available is a collection of the recent online UK UFO reports as well as all of the online video & audio related to the earlier MoD UFO file release (and of course liberal sprinklings of conjecture and opinion) then visit, "The MoD UFO files release, the Sun & the 2008 UK UFO Wave."

Lastly regarding the first MoD UFO file release, Joe McGonagle (UK-UFO.org) organised a team of UK UFO researchers to catalogue the first TNA MoD UFO files release. This is provided in a very user friendly spreadsheet, which is available here.

Spreadsheet available of the first TNA/MoD UFO files release available here.

Right, onto the release scheduled for the 20 th October 2008…..

It seems as if yet again a couple of the nationals have jumped the gun and published details of this hours before (again) the release is publicly announced, and as before the release will be available from the ‘The National Archives' (TNA) website.

It would appear that the ‘Sunday Mirror' was the first to crack and run a story on the imminent release which was as follows:

Passenger jet almost 'collided with UFO'

A passenger jet heading for Heathrow almost collided with a UFO over Kent , according to the latest "X-files" to be released by the Government tomorrow. In other reports US Air Force pilots were ordered to shoot down a UFO over East Anglia (the files don't say what happened next) and RAF Tornado jets were overtaken by another UFO over Germany . The files from 1986-92 include claims from people who say they met or were abducted by aliens. They will be posted on the National Archives website.

US jet 'ordered to fire at UFO over East Anglia '

A US Air Force fighter pilot claims he was ordered to fire all of his 24 rockets at a UFO spotted flying over East Anglia – and then warned never to speak about the incident - the MoD records reveal.

Milton Torres, then aged 25, was on standby at RAF Manston in Kent on May 20 1957 when he received an urgent order to scramble and intercept an unknown craft with " very unusual flight patterns ". He managed to get a radar " lock-on" the target, which he could not see because of thick cloud but which his instruments indicated was the size of a B-52 bomber.

The order then came through to fire his jet's entire arsenal at the UFO, but it darted off his radar before he could act. Dr Torres, now 77 and still convinced it was an alien craft, says he was visited the next day by a man claiming to be from the US National Security Agency, who threatened him with losing his flying status if he told anyone what happened. The former pilot's story entered the MoD's archives after he repeated his claims at a veterans reunion in 1988.

"There are people who are still alive on Earth who know about this," he said.

Five of the strangest UFO sightings and encounters

These are some of the most interesting reports contained in the released Ministry of Defence files:

1) January 1991: Man reports seeing two aliens landing their flying saucer next to a railway track near Warminster Army barracks in Wiltshire.

2) March 1990: Woman claims she is an alien from " Amazon, the planet of warrior women " in the Sirius system, whose spacecraft landed on Earth during the Second World War. Encloses drawing of herself with ears similar to Star Trek character Mr Spock.

3) 1989: Two aliens seen emerging from flying saucer in Somerset , apparently in order to check their engine. One was able to speak in perfect English, according to witness.

4) April 1991: Alitalia airliner en route from Milan to Heathrow has near miss with brown missile-shaped object near Lydd in Kent . Case closed after investigation fails to identify object.

5) June 1991: Four passengers on board a Dan Air Boeing 737 saw a "wingless projectile" pass beneath the aircraft as it climbed from Gatwick Airport headed for Hamburg .

UFOs, alien abductions and Tina Turner feature in Close Encounters secret files

Passenger jets nearly colliding with UFOs, reports of alien abduction and lasers from a Tina Turner concert all feature in the latest "Close Encounters" released by the MoD.

The 19 files, which date from 1986 and 1992, show the extensive records of strange sightings by members of the public and unexplained radar images from air traffic control. In one instance, an Alitalia flight coming into land at London 's Heathrow Airport reported a near miss with a UFO, which the pilot described as " similar to a missile - light brown or fawn - about three metres in length but without any exhaust flame ". Captain Achille Zaghetti was so concerned about a collision he shouted " Look out! Look out !" to his co-pilot who then spotted the same object. A corresponding image appeared on the Air Traffic Control radar and the MoD was brought in to investigate.

In the files, released by the National Archive, the military admitted the sighting in April 1991 could not be explained, having ruled out a British or American missile. It concluded: " In the absence of any clear evidence which could be used to identify the object, it is our intention to treat this sighting like that of any other Unidentified Flying Object. " Two further near misses were reported in the summer of 1991 when one aircraft flying in to Gatwick airport reported a " wingless projectile " passing the left side of the plane and another flight leaving Gatwick spotted a " small lozenge-shaped object " speeding past the cockpit. The newly released files also go into detail about a US Air Force pilot who claims he was ordered to shoot down a UFO flying above East Anglia in 1957, and was later warned never to speak about the incident.

Also included in the material are several reports of alien abductions and strange sightings. In 1989, one man from Somerset reported seeing a flying saucer land near the Feltham bypass and two aliens, dressed in black, apparently emerged. One alien checked the engines while a second said - in fluent English - " capture that man before tells anybody else ". Another man from Brighton spotted a brightly-lit UFO, shaped like a " squashed rugby ball ", which hovered above his house.

Two men in beige uniforms were seen inside, but when they spotted the man, they turned out the lights and sped out to sea. The RAF official who took the call noted: " Caller sounded genuine enough and his main concern seemed to be that he didn't want to talk too much about the craft if it was 'one of ours that we wanted to keep secret'. " In August 1989, reports of "two to three lights, green, red and orange oscillating" and moving " left and right and around each other " were reported to the MoD. What the concerned callers did not realise was that they were looking at the lasers illuminating Tina Turner's latest concert.

I predict more of the same as we seen with the earlier release as the all too fickle media pretend to (albeit briefly) take the UFO subject seriously. Still, give it a couple of days as after they’ve had a chance to actually peruse the documents they’ll start publishing the ridiculous accounts, the snide comments and the, ‘Aliens abducted my dog’ accounts before moving on to more 'important' stories.....

Possible Explanation For Flintshire UFO?

Firstly, I'll admit that I haven't researched the new(ish) Flintshire UFO story in the slightest and so the following is no more than conjecture and certainly not the 'concrete' evidence that the Flintshire mayor is searching for, but if you'll indulge me.....

After reading several accounts which appeared across the internet I was instantly reminded of an earlier UFO report (with images) that I researched quite a while ago.

Here are some (edited) images of the US UFO report.
images of the US UFO report
3 images cropped and pasted together.

The report originated in the US and was reminiscent of the, “Cigar” like UFOs that are occasionally witnessed and reported, except of course that this particular object although it appeared structured didn't seem to resemble any of the earlier reports which were made regarding the classic cigar UFO.

Here's what I (and others) believed the object to be:
Solar Balloon (UFO?)

Regarding this recent Flintshire UFO report then as I said, I really haven't researched it in any detail whatsoever and subsequently I'm unable to make an informed decision, but…..

If I had to hazard a guess then it would be that the object was a solar balloon which are surprisingly easy to make and also relatively cheap to buy in kits. (Of course it may not have been the XXXXL model!!)

Anyway here are the two main articles from the website of the local newspaper:

Flintshire mayor calls for witnesses after seeing 'pipe-like' UFO.

UFO sightings over North Wales

Flint mayor, Terry Renshaw, is asking if anybody else saw a flying ‘ pipe-like ' object in the sky above Flintshire. Flint 's town mayor is seeking witnesses after spotting a mysterious 'pipe-like' object in the sky. Flint mayor Terry Renshaw was making lunch at his home in Bagillt at about 1.30pm on Saturday, when he noticed a strange pipe-like object flying through the air.

"I thought at first that it was a plane trailing a big streamer behind it, but then I realised it was something else…..It looked like a big, flexible aluminium pipe and it was travelling very fast, with no sound…..I took a picture of it on my camera and carried on watching it for a bit and then it disappeared, behind what I thought was a cloud, but there were no clouds…..I then looked at the picture on my camera but there was nothing there – just a clear blue sky."

However, the sighting is not the first unusual object to be spotted in Flintshire's skies in recent months as during the Christmas and New Year period, dozens of residents reported seeing a series of strange orange lights travelling quickly across the sky. So far, no-one has been able to offer a concrete explanation as to exactly what these objects were and following this latest sighting, Cllr Renshaw is looking for anyone in the area who may have noticed something similar, adding:

"I have contacted the UFO Society to see if it has received any similar reports, but I have not heard anything from them yet…..I would be really interested to know if anyone in Flintshire spotted the same thing."

Flint mayor's UFO sighting verified by other spotters

Flint mayor, Terry Renshaw.

A town mayor's sighting of a mysterious object in the sky has prompted other Flintshire residents to speak out about their own strange experiences. Flint mayor Terry Renshaw claims he spotted a strange 'pipe-like' object travelling silently in the sky above his home, at about 1.30pm on Saturday, September 27.

He contacted the Evening Leader to ask if anyone else in North Wales had seen something similar and as well as attracting interest from an American citizen, who reported seeing the same object near his house in Vermont, Cllr Renshaw's revelations match sightings from two other Flintshire residents.

Gwyneth Davies, of Buckley, said:

"I saw the object Cllr Renshaw saw in the sky at lunchtime that day….."I thought it was an odd shape to be a plane and it was so silent…..It was tubular shaped, and I was going to mention it to my husband, then the phone rang and I came in from the garden…..It was only after reading about his sighting that I remembered about it."

Another reader added:

"Whilst travelling to work Corus on October 5, at about 6.15pm, I looked towards Bagillt and noticed a large, shiny, tube-like object in the clear blue sky, which did not seem to be moving…..As I arrived at work, I mentioned this to other work mates, who looked towards Flint and the object was still visible."

If I was looking for explanations then a solar balloon would have to be satisfactorily dismissed before any more ‘exotic’ explanations were considered, especially when reading the above descriptions.

Alleged Irish Footage Posted To Internet Is Fake

I was a little surprised to see that REALUFOS.net Blog posted the following (7th Oct 2008).

The stunning irish triangle ufo video (Tuesday, October 07 2008)

This is the apparent Irish triangle Ufo i recently posted about. The footage was seen at the irish ufo conference and was filmed by senior garda pilot and witnessed by a Fianna Fail (irish) politician. If its a CGi its well done, if anyone knows anymore about the footage please reply to this post.

Unfortunately I can say categorically that this particular video is undoubtedly a fake. I posted the following comment/question that has yet to be answered (as are any comments):

“What information do you have access to that suggests it's the Irish conference footage?

As (unfortunately) if you check the comment posted with the video it says:

“This is a video was on a cheap camera I found when Hiking in the Smokey Mountains . This is all that was on it.”

I assume(d) that the, “Smokey mountains” in question were of the Appalachian variety (rather than Irish)……

Also according to the latest article in the Meath chronicle then there were four triangles visible suggesting it was indeed a collection of point light sources rather than structured objects.

Are you relying solely on the various YouTube comments to establish this is the correct video?”

The above video which was alleged to be the Irish footage and is being perpetuated as such is 100% verifiable man-made competition entry. It was made by someone called Jeff Wilson, the following is an excerpt from the ‘HoaxResearchCenter' website:

Speaking of Strange UFO Experience

Last year's winner, and 3-year champion, Jeff Wilson, created a triangular helium-lifted craft, remote controlled, with multiple stages. He was able to scan the audience with a laser, release smoke to enshroud his creation, and even switch the craft's lighting structure instantly, producing the illusion of a different object.

For more information on the “Speaking of Strange UFO Experience” visit http://www.hoaxresearchcenter.com/.

(1) Recent alleged Irish UFO footage.
(2) Jeff Wilson 2006 man-made UFO in flight.
(3) Jeff Wilson 2006 man-made UFO display.

While the images of the toy UFO created by Jeff Wilson that can be found on their website are certainly similar it's not the exact same one BUT that's because it's the 2006 craft, however if we have a look at some of the footage from the 2007 competition….. (The relevant section is around the 3:30 mark).

As you can see the exact same footage WITH original audio.

For links to video clips of all the other competition footage then please visit L.E.M.U.R. forums here, it also includes 2008 footage in which Jeff only managed 2nd place losing out to what was titled in the subsequent press release as:

Second Place went to Jeff Wilson, the 3-year First Place Winner since the events inception, in 2005. Wilson is also the first UFO champion to go on Coast to Coast AM, briefly interviewed along with Joshua P. Warren on August 19, 2008. Jeff's initial plans went awry when there were unexpected problems with his main entry, so he had to compete by entering a secondary craft, far less elaborate than his original. Jeff's unexpected problem was echoed by the new champion, Jim, since Jim's grand finale, a huge balloon with multiple-stage effects, also had to be cancelled at the last minute due to a frame break that could not be easily repaired. This is a great example of the significant technical challenges these talented engineers face, and illustrates the difficulty in faking some of the extreme UFO sightings reported throughout history.

‘It blew everyone away,' said event organizer Joshua P. Warren. ‘This is a valuable piece of data for anyone interested in analyzing UFO imagery. It's a great example of how studying a fake can help us analyze the real thing.'

Irish Conference Footage - Shown Today!! (11-Oct-08)

Video footage of the Triangle UFO will be shown at:
Dublin Paranormal Convention,
(Saturday 11th October 2008 - Clontarf Castle)

The original article posted by the Irish Independent read as follows:

“THE truth is out there -- and if a senior garda, a Fianna Fail politician and a pilot are to be believed, aliens are keeping a close eye on us from above. Dramatic eye-witness testimony was heard at a conference over the weekend which, delegates were told, provided "definitive" proof of recent UFO activity in the skies around north Dublin and Meath. Footage, filmed on a camera phone at 10.35pm on August 3 near Dunboyne was also played and replayed to over 70 delegates who attended the fifth Irish International UFO conference in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The triangular shaped image, with lights at each point, which appeared to send a red laser-type light towards earth, drew gasps of amazement from the 70 or so delegates who attended the world premiere of the footage. A senior garda officer who was driving when he noticed the unusual light formation in the sky stopped to film it.

And some reported quotes by Carl Nally:

"This is what the sceptics are crying out for. What all this footage has in common is that trained observers, honest people, took it. What better could you get than a senior garda, a politician and a pilot…. There is no footage like this in the world. It is the most amazing and spectacular I have ever seen."

As it's not immediately apparent I should point out that:

“THE truth is out there -- and if a senior garda, a Fianna Fail politician and a pilot are to be believed, aliens are keeping a close eye on us from above”

& “What better could you get than a senior garda, a politician and a pilot….”

Is a little misleading as both articles are in fact referencing three individual and otherwise unrelated UFO reports from three entirely different witnesses.

Dunboyne UFOs Solved?

After I first wrote about the Dunboyne UFO -and by quoting from the above article- a message was left on the Blog post by someone named Andrea Mulligan (6 th October 2008). Andrea had held her wedding reception at the Dunboyne Castle Hotel on the 3 rd August 2008, which is the same evening that -also in Dunboyne- the UFO footage was recorded.

Andrea contacted me again and answered several questions I had regarding the lantern release.

Approximately 20 sky lanterns were released; the releases were staggered over 30-45 minutes starting from about 10.30pm. The reason for the varying release times is due to the amount of time taken to light the lanterns and to wait for the hot air to collect in order for them to rise. Andrea also noted that because of this factor then sometimes this was in bunches of three or four and other times it was only possible to release them at five minute intervals. Andrea also said that the movement was consistent and “reasonably smoothly.

I also received confirmation from the events manager at the Dunboyne Castle Hotel

(Melanie Euler) who confirmed that lanterns were indeed released by a wedding party on the 3rd August and that this occurred between 10 & 11pm.

After receiving these swift responses I then emailed Carl Nally, the co-founder of UFO and Paranormal Research Ireland whom had previously been quoted as saying that this particular camera phone footage was:

“The best film of a UFO ever filmed in Ireland and perhaps some of the best footage ever captured worldwide."

I asked if he was aware of this possible identification and had he applied this knowledge when evaluating the footage. Also by now there were two conflicting reports (surprise, surprise) in the media as to what could actually be seen in the footage.

Firstly the Irish Independent said:

“The triangular shaped image, with lights at each point, which appeared to send a red laser-type light towards earth, drew gasps of amazement from the 70 or so delegates who attended the world premiere of the footage.”

And then the Meath Chronicle wrote:

“There were worldwide reports of four triangular UFOs being spotted in the skies over Dunboyne at 10.45pm on 3rd August, the date of Andrea and Lynden's wedding.”

So I asked Carl Nally how many ‘triangles' are visible and did he recall how many lights in total could be seen. I also asked a couple of other simple questions such as do the lights appear the same size, do they move in a discernible direction and could he divulge the approximate locale from where this footage was captured. I realised that the amount of lights had already been posted by Carl in a public rebuttal to Andrea, (see further down for more information on this) and Carl was already quoted as saying: The fourth triangular shaped UFO , turning anti-clockwise before shooting a beam down towards the Earth. It then can be seen flying off following the other UFOs in a northwest direction." But call me old-fashioned if you want but I still like to hear it from the source (as it were).

Unfortunately I've had no reply and so I assume that these are busy times for Carl with the upcoming Paranormal convention at Clontarf Castle, Dublin (where the footage is scheduled for an exclusive public showing) and with, “Interest in the footage from as far afield as Australia with various TV companies in touch looking for the footage to be made available for documentaries ” then I genuinely appreciate that because I've received no reply or acknowledgement it doesn't mean anything other than Carl is a very busy man at the minute.

Anyway, I contacted Carl a couple of days ago now, the following story appeared in the Meath Chronicle just prior to my email:

The Hoax Files: Source of mystery UFOs revealed!

The mystery surrounding the appearance of UFOs in the skies over Dunboyne recently has been solved.

It's all because of a wedding!

'UFOs' spotted over Dunboyne' were among the rather lurid headlines in both national and local papers, while the incident was reported widely on the internet and was the highlight of a recent paranormal convention. The 'UFOs' were filmed by a high-ranking garda (not from Dunboyne) who happened to be in the area and even an excited Carl Nally, co-founder of UFO and Paranormal Research Ireland, described the footage captured on a camera phone as “the best film of a UFO ever filmed in Ireland and perhaps some of the best footage ever captured worldwide.

However, the much publicised and discussed 'UFOs' were actually Chinese sky lanterns released by a local couple as a romantic end to their perfect day! Andrea Mulligan, a daughter of Mabel and Finian Mulligan of Dunderry, Navan, but who now lives in Manchester , married Lyndon James on 3rd August and held their reception in Dunboyne Castle Hotel. However, when planning their special day, they could never have imagined the headlines the romantic finale to the wedding would create. Andrea said:

It is a Chinese tradition to celebrate a special event by making a wish on these lanterns, lighting them and releasing them into the sky…..My husband, our guests and I released them as part of our wedding celebrations. There wasn't an alien in sight! I cannot believe this story is all over the internet!

Andrea, who is a solicitor, and Lynden, who is a detective inspector with the British Police, have never really been interested in UFOs and are both astonished at the reaction to their gesture. There were worldwide reports of four triangular UFOs being spotted in the skies over Dunboyne at 10.45pm on 3rd August, the date of Andrea and Lynden's wedding.

We had a good laugh. It is absolutely gas and I particularly loved reports that alien activity was increasing because of what is happening at Tara,” she added.

Traditionally used in Asian festivals, sky lanterns are said to create an awe-inspiring alternative to a fireworks display and are often used for weddings parties, barbeques and other festivities. Also known as paper or sky lanterns, they are extremely light and can fly in the air for up to 20 minutes and will travel several miles in distance, after which the flame will blow out and they will gently float back down for a safe landing. Sky lanterns can fly to more than 1,000 meters in altitude.

Because of Dunboyne Castle 's proximity to Dublin Airport, Andrea and Lyndon had to get permission from the Irish Aviation Authority and the local Gardai before releasing the sky lanterns.

If all these people were so convinced it was aliens, just a little research with the Irish aviation authorities would have told them what it was,” Andrea said.

And the Tribune.ie wrote:

“Irish UFO tape to be beamed around the world.”

Footage of an alleged UFO, which was filmed in Co Meath by a senior garda two months ago, is to be the main attraction of Ireland 's first Paranormal Convention. The footage, filmed on a camera phone over Dunboyne on 3 August, will be shown to hundreds of UFO enthusiasts expected at the event in Clontarf Castle , Dublin next weekend.

Carl Nally, co-founder of UFO and Paranormal Research Ireland .

"What we have is the best film of a UFO ever filmed in Ireland and perhaps some of the best footage ever captured worldwide….The man involved is a high-ranking garda from Portlaoise. He was on his way back there from Dunboyne on 3 August at about 10.45pm when he spotted four triangular UFOs travelling over his head…..It was such an amazing sight that he jumped out of his car and began filming the objects on his camera phone. What he caught was the fourth triangular shaped UFO , turning anti-clockwise before shooting a beam down towards the Earth. It then can be seen flying off following the other UFOs in a northwest direction."

Two 'stills' of Irish Triangle UFO

But perhaps more interesting were the comments below the article, a couple of which were posted by Andrea herself, one by another guest at the hotel on the 3rd August and one is a reply from Carl Nally:

#4 Andrea Mulligan commented, on October 6, 2008 at 4:42 p.m.:The "UFO footage" is of sky lanterns (Chinese lanterns) released from Dunboyne Castle by my husband and I at our wedding reception there on the evening of 3 August 2008.

#5 Oliver Murray commented, on October 6, 2008 at 5:19 p.m.:
Yes, Ms Mulligan is correct. My wife and I stayed at the Dunboyne Castle Hotel on the nights of 2nd and 3rd August last, and between 10.30pm and 11pm on 3rd August we watched, from the balcony of our room, the wedding party release about a dozen “sky lanterns” from the car park which travelled in a roughly westerly direction. These are Chinese lanterns/hot air balloons, each powered by a candle. While they were neither coloured, nor triangular, I suspect these were the UFOs your correspondent Ken Sweeney is referring to. Sorry if this spoils the fun at the forthcoming UFO convention.

#9 Carl commented, on October 7, 2008 at 9:29 a.m.: I spoke Andrea on the phone who thought her wedding lanterns were the UFO's reported in the article.

Our video footage was taken by a Garda detective (a highly skilled and trained observer) and he is in no doubt about what he saw and videoed on the night of August 3rd at 10:45pm.

1) Twelve bright objects were observed.

2) There is no video footage on The Tribune website, just three small quality stills.

Since she has never viewed the video footage, she could not compare the two experiences.

We at UPRI are not aware of any sky lantern anywhere in the world having the capability to shoot a red laser type beam down to the ground. I personally have a lot of experience with sky lanterns, (we let dozens off every year at our UFO conferences) and the characteristics of the sky lanterns do not resemble the video footage in any shape or form whatsoever.

Carl Nally

#10 Andrea commented, on October 7, 2008 at 9:53 a.m.:
Mmmmm....what are the chances that we let off about 12 sky lanterns over Dunboyne at 10.45pm on 3 August 2008 and, at exactly the same time, on the same date and in the same location, 12 completely separate and unrelated UFOs decided to make an appearance?

Source: Tribune.ie

A couple of observations……

The time is now established 10:45pm and as Carl actually has the original footage then this should be the most accurate and it also fits with the two timelines suggested by both Andrea and Melanie (Dunboyne Castle Hotel events manager) regarding the release of Chinese lanterns.

12 bright objects were observed” and since the shape is known to be triangular then this would account for the four triangle UFOs that were reported earlier, but still, a little confirmation would be nice.

Instead of stating that Andrea hasn't seen the footage perhaps state why she hasn't viewed (or been shown) the footage?

If Carl is holding ‘definitive proof ' that is not only beyond reproach and the likes of which has never been seen before, but is also the most spectacular and amazing footage that Carl himself has seen then why prolong what must be imminent disclosure (or at least an academic acceptance of the phenomena) any more than necessary? Carl Nally is no stranger to UFOs or paranormal occurrences and has authored books on the subject, so when he waxes lyrical to such an extent as to proclaim what he has done about the footage then it ‘should' carry more weight than that of your average UFO hobbyist.

Additionally, when Carl personally writes statements like:

“We at UPRI are not aware of any sky lantern anywhere in the world having the capability to shoot a red laser type beam down to the ground…..I personally have a lot of experience with sky lanterns, (we let dozens off every year at our UFO conferences) and the characteristics of the sky lanterns do not resemble the video footage in any shape or form whatsoever.”

Then people may be forgiven for not instantly buying into the lantern explanation, and as the old adage goes, “The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Hopefully we may be allowed a taste-test before this particular pudding turns stale…..

Irish Conference UFO Footage Claimed To Be Party Balloons

A recent comment left on UFO-Blog.com by someone called Andrea was as follows:

Andrea said...

"The lights seen in the sky above Dunboyne Castle on 3 August 2008 and filmed by a senior Garda were not UFOs. In fact, they were Sky Lanterns released by me, my husband and our wedding guests as part of our wedding celebrations at Dunboyne Castle Hotel that evening. Not an alien in sight!!!

I’ve left word to try and establish contact and at the minute nothing is confirmed ‘per se’ although I am trying to research this further so any help is greatly appreciated.

However, this doesn't account for the ‘light’ that can apparently be witnessed on the video coming towards the earth (according to the Irish Independent).

(Eric Rush of the ufo-uk.org mailing list recently commented that he had received information indicating that the: “Video footage of the Triangle UFO will be shown at the Dublin Paranormal Convention on Saturday 11th Oct in Clontarf Castle.”)

The comment was left on the original Blog post here (We're not alone - politician and pilot spot UFO)

IFOs Into UFOs - Chinese Lanterns In Sunderland (Again!!)

UFO Balloons - Chinese LanternsThe Sunderland Echo recently (3rd October 2008) ran a story regarding a UFO report from a few days ago, they reveal the source of the sightings whilst also mentioning that BUFORA (whom I personally thought were practically defunct) have also revealed that Chinese lanterns were the likely cause.

I wrote about these lanterns at the beginning of July foretelling of the misidentifications I believed that they were going to produce over the summer months, now only a couple of months later and the vast majority of UK UFO reports it seems are (eventually) attributed to these Chinese lanterns.

The article I wrote was titled: “IFOs: (LITs) UFO Balloons, Chinese Lanterns & Misidentifications” and can be viewed here.

Regular readers may remember that one of the three UFO reports I referenced to highlight the fact that these Chinese Lanterns/UFO balloons were predominantly reported as UFOs was in fact an earlier 2006 Sunderland report.

Anyway, here's the recent explanation of the September 2008 Sunderland UFO report:

Teen party sparks UFO alert

(Last Updated: 03 October 2008 11:14 AM)

Yasmin and her grandmother Yvonne RenwickAn 18th birthday party sparked a series of apparent UFO sightings across Wearside, it emerged today. Shocked residents told last month how they watched as eerie glowing orbs appeared over Hetton and Easington Lane .

As reported in the Echo, more than a dozen witnesses were left stunned after spotting nine "fireballs" in the night sky. Mum Sharon Johnston captured the orange lights on her mobile phone camera. The 33-year-old, from Hetton, said they appeared to be travelling in formation and were in the air for about 10 minutes before suddenly vanishing from sight. However, the British UFO Research Association later revealed it was likely the lights were Chinese sky lanterns, which are often released into the air at public events and celebrations.

Today it emerged that 30 lanterns were lit at Elemore Golf Club, Hetton, where Yasmin Renwick was marking her 18th birthday.

"I couldn't believe it when I saw the article in the paper…..It was a complete shock…..The lanterns were a surprise on the night and it was surprise the next day when I heard how many people had seen them…..It was a great birthday party, though, and I'll never forget it."

Often used as an alternative to fireworks displays, the lanterns – made of paper and bamboo – are known to rise as high as 1,500metres and can travel miles. Yasmin's gran, Yvonne, also from Hetton, helped organise the surprise party with the birthday girl's mum Zoe. She said:

"I was at a wedding about a year ago where I saw about 150 lanterns released into the air. It was so dramatic…..They went down well at the party, but the day after my phone didn't stop ringing. Apparently, people were rushing into their gardens with video cameras…..But we all had a laugh about it afterwards…..It is something to remember Yasmin's birthday by."

When I wrte this Blog post the earlier article by the Sunderland Echo was unavailable online, this has now been rectified so here is the article that preceded the one above.

Light thrown on UFO sightings

(01 October 2008)

UFO researchers today identified the mysterious orange lights spotted floating in the sky over a village.

Shocked residents last week told how they watched in awe as the eerie glowing orbs appeared over Easington Lane . As reported in the Echo, more than a dozen witnesses were left stunned after they saw up to nine "fireballs" on Saturday.

Mum Sharon Johnston captured the orange lights on her mobile phone camera. The 33-year-old, from Hetton, said they appeared to be travelling in formation and were in the air for about 10 minutes before suddenly vanishing from sight. The British UFO Research Association says it was likely the lights were Chinese sky lanterns, which are often released into the air at public events and celebrations. Often used as an alternative to fireworks displays, the lanterns, which are made of paper and bamboo, are known to rise as high as 1,500 metres and can travel miles. They are regularly seen at weekends and mistaken for UFOs.

After viewing the footage, a spokesman for the association said: " I see nothing at all here to suggest anything other than lanterns. The colour, appearance and behaviour of the lights unfortunately fit an all too familiar – and, from our perspective, annoying – pattern."

There have been similar sightings in Bristol, Lincolnshire and Wrexham.

The spokesman added: "It is not the fault of such witnesses that so much time ultimately becomes wasted on these reports as the general public are by and large, and perhaps understandably, unfamiliar with the behavioural traits of these things."

I Hope Blossom Proves Me Wrong!!

I've been aware of this channelling prediction for quite a while now but to be honest once I drew the parallels between, “The Federation Of Light” and “Vrillons” pirate radio broadcast from the 1970's then I've hesitated in posting anything about it, mainly as it wouldn't have been complimentary. But as the countdown is most definitely on with the predicted event to occur in a fortnight and especially as it's received quite a bit of mainstream coverage then I thought I'd at least mention it.

The most recent message states that:

There shall be many who deny.

There shall be many who dismiss.

There shall be those who KNOW of this TRUTH.

Which ever you may be … let this be understood.

IT SHALL TAKE PLACE.

Unfortunately I'm not one of those that, “Knows the truth” so rather than post reams of reasons why I'm not, and as I'm not going to offer any disparaging comments as to this imminent celestial unveiling then I'll simply say that I undoubtedly and 100% hope I'm wrong about Blossom Goodchild (Australian actress, author and direct-voice medium) and Mike Quinsey, (well-known United States-based medium) and of course their outlandish predictions.

But while we're on this subject then what I will add (and in my humble opinion) I think ALL (yes, that's every single one of them WITHOUT exception) mediums are charlatans and that's certainly the nicest way I can think of phrasing it…...

ET is coming on vacation

September 28 2008 at 03:07PM
By Eleanor Momberg

Reminiscent of a bad script from a science-fiction movie, Earthlings are being warned in a bombardment of Internet postings that the aliens are coming. And, their date of arrival is October 14. While sceptics are brushing off the messages as something that will give ufology a bad name, others are saying the messages received by two mediums on opposite ends of the globe are real.

The mediums, Blossom Goodchild, an Australian actress, author and direct-voice medium, and Mike Quinsey, a well-known United States-based medium, say they have been contacted by the galactic Federation of Light who have made it known that they will park their massive space ship over Alabama " in the south of your hemisphere " on October 14, and will remain there for three days. The visitation to humans has been brought forward from the initially planned End of Days in 2012 because of the damage being caused to the planet by man and the fact that "dark forces" remain in charge.

The most recent message was channelled to Mike Quinsey this week from SaLuSa of Sirius on behalf of the federation, which warned that it would not be long before people would get a clear indication of where humanity was going.

"There are events that are approaching manifestation that will be the precursor of greater happenings... You are being helped to break away from the iron grip of the dark forces, and this is vital if you are to tread a different path that shall allow you full expression in the Light," part of the message said.

SaLuSa continued that soon there would be "irrefutable proof" that we are not alone in this universe and that extraterrestrial craft were no strangers to the planet. "What will be different is that the event of October 14 will happen in such a way that it will be undeniable and will open the door to first contact," the being apparently told Quinsey, who was also informed that without the help of extraterrestrials, man would have been unable to progress as far.

But the initial announcement that the federation was en route was made by Goodchild, who recently published a book documenting the messages channelled to her by these cosmic beings. She said that in her most recent contacts the beings informed her that they come to "help us and our planet move to a new higher vibration of love".

In their message to the "leaders, governors, politicians and all people of Earth", the federation stated that they would be attacked by those who would try to deny their existence. They were not coming to take over the world or destroy it, but to give people hope so that they would see the Light. Their presence would be televised, but there would be no direct human contact.

The aliens claimed that man had been prepared for their arrival - through the movies.

One blogger questioned whether the Federation of Light was the alien force that Captain Kirk and Mr Spock had to deal with in at least three of the original Star Trek episodes. Others debated whether this was not part of Nasa's Blue Beam Project, part of which apparently involved a gigantic "space show" consisting of three-dimensional optical holograms sounding the new "god's" voice to mark the start of a new world order.

Yet others debated whether these messages were reminiscent of doomsday cults such as Jim Jones's People's Temple and the Heaven's Gate in which followers committed mass suicide. The 38 Heaven's Gate followers believed souls would board a space ship hiding in the Hale-Bopp comet in 1997. In additional communications posted on Goodchild's website, the aliens tell her they are coming to collect those humans who have seen the Light, which some said might explain alien abductions.

Cristo Louw, the founder of South Africa 's UFO Resource, said he believed anything was possible and that "vibrations have been happening throughout the history of humankind". While he would not bet money on the aliens arriving on October 14, he did believe it " might be a good thing to get people to focus on something more positive ".

"If it happens, it is not unexpected. It is not going to change the fact that these beings are real…..Most people are in survival-mode thinking, so they have not had a chance to think about the deeper questions in life. This might be their chance."

Man, he said, was ready for this visit.

Irish UFO Conference Footage – 3 Credible Witnesses

We're not alone - politician and pilot spot UFO

By Anita Guidera
Monday September 29 2008

THE truth is out there and if a senior garda, a Fianna Fail politician and a pilot are to be believed, aliens are keeping a close eye on us from above. Dramatic eye-witness testimony was heard at a conference over the weekend which, delegates were told, provided "definitive " proof of recent UFO activity in the skies around north Dublin and Meath.

"There is no footage like this in the world. It is the most amazing and spectacular I have ever seen," said Carl Nally, co-founder of UFO and Paranormal Research Ireland and joint author of 'Conspiracy of Silence'.

Five days earlier, on July 29, an off-duty pilot who photographed lightning from Howth pier just after midnight later noticed what appeared to be a triangular-shaped object to the right of the lightning fork in the developed image.

And Fianna Fail Town Councillor in Trim, Jimmy Peppard, ran indoors for a camera on August 8 when he spotted a triangular-shaped object measuring "About a mile in diameter " in the sky, where it remained static for about half an hour.

"What we have here is sightings of three objects east, west and south-east of Dublin airport, each five days apart by reliable and trained observers and even since I have arrived here I have received another image from a pilot, " Mr Nally told the conference. He later described the laser beam footage as the best footage on the planet and said it would be shown all over the world. "This is what the sceptics are crying out for. What all this footage has in common is that trained observers, honest people, took it. What better could you get than a senior garda, a politician and a pilot," he said.

He added that he would not rule out speculation that increased UFO activity in the north Dublin and Meath areas was linked to the road construction works near Tara . " We cannot rule this out as a possibility. We are talking about a very ancient sacred place, " he said.

Ross Hemsworth, who presents a TV show on Sky which investigates the paranormal, said he would reserve judgment until he examined the footage more closely: " There have been a lot of sightings in Ireland in a lot of strange places and the proximity to the digging of the motorway may have opened things up .”

Delegates at the two-day event, organised by Betty Meyler, President of the UFO Society of Ireland, otherwise immersed themselves in talk of orbs, luminosity, crop circles, alien abductions and star children. And ex-oilfield executive Ian Crane warned of plans for a fake alien invasion to be staged at the 2012 Olympics in London by the terrorists behind 9/11 and other atrocities, in their quest for global control.

For organiser Betty Meyler the conference provided an opportunity for like-minded people to come together and make friends: " Before, people were afraid to report sightings because they did not want to be thought of as 'cuckoo' but that has changed now ."

Trojan Horse Targets UFO Enthusiasts

UFO spam hides a Trojan horse

Security experts have warned that emails claiming to contain a video from the CNN news organisation reporting contact with extra-terrestrials should be ignored. The video attached to the email actually contains a Trojan horse rather than the promised report on aliens sending 'cartoon' messages to humanity, said Trend Micro.

A number of other hoax emails with rogue video files attached appearing to be sent by other news outlets such as the BBC also use topics other than UFOs to try and pique our interest.

One of the messages comes with the subject line,
"Hot News: Gene modified rabbits go wild!"

Florabel Baetiong of Trend Micro said that:

"The address bars and subject fields carry sensational headlines whose details supposedly are in the attached video.....Attachment is a compressed file, which when opened contains not a video but a malicious executable file named Exclusive.Cut.avi.exe."

Trend Micro advised surfers to be cautious of unsolicited and unexpected email messages, as the attachments they carry may be harmful to systems.

The MoD UFO File Release, The Sun & The 2008 UK UFO Wave

Visit here for full post, related articles, media etc.

It was almost impossible to have missed the furore regarding the MoD release of their "UFO files" back in May as it was all over the web, the television and the media for several weeks. The event was covered by many different authors at many different venues in many, many different countries. The relentless media coverage (especially in the UK) was unparalleled for a UFO related story as for at least a few days in May 2008, UFOs certainly went mainstream.

To see and appreciate the extent of the coverage I've correlated it into some loose semblance of order, due to the lists of reports and the amount of media footage it wasn't possible to include them all in one Blog post, so I'll only post a couple of clips here. (Main post here)

The Sun & The UK UFO Wave (Summer 2008)

More4 takes a look at the recent UK UFO reports and also at *The Sun* newspapers role in the making of a myth.

"Experts are divided over how to explain the more...recent surge in sightings of unidentified flying objects in the night sky over Britain, as More4 News reports. But some allege that when it comes to UFO-mania, tabloid editors are reluctant to let the truth get in the way of a good story."

The, “Why Bother Files.”

MOD Disclosure On, "Have I Got News for You"

A light-hearted look at the disclosure of the MODs UFO files by the satirical and topical, "Have I Got News For You."

Timothy Good: The 'One Show' (29th July 2008)

Here’s a clip of a recent interview with Timothy Good on the 'One Show' (29th July 2008) firmly advocating his belief that the MoD is perpetrating a massive cover-up as the only files released are classified as “Confidential.”

Spreadsheet Now Available Of TNA/MoD UFO Files Release (index)

Joe McGonagle (UK-UFO.org) while not only being one of the people originally responsible for petitioning the MoD to such an extent it was deemed easier to just release ALL of the files has taken it upon himself to organise a team of UK UFO researchers to catalogue the recent TNA MoD UFO files release.

This is provided in a very user friendly spreadsheet, which is available here.

Continental Airlines Pilot Reports UFO - FBI Investigates (May 26th 2008)

The FBI are investigating this incident although all early reports tend to suggest that it was little more than an amateur ‘rocket enthusiast’.

Is this public announcement of an imminent investigation because the fact that a smoke trail was present and it’s a relatively safe bet that this was the result of an amateur rocketeer?

The main reason for the investigation if early media reports are to be believed isn’t to identify the UFO but rather to assess exactly how close the object was and if it posed any kind of threat.

No doubt model rocket enthusiasts will bear the brunt of this investigations as it has already been reported that those in and around the Houston area have already been approached and questioned by the authorities.

Or is this an all too convenient explanation? Unfortunately (and with the information available) as well as being the most convenient it's also undoubtedly the most likely....

HOUSTON -- The FBI and the Federal Aviation Administration said they are investigating a report from a Continental Airlines pilot, who told air-traffic controllers that a possible model rocket with a flaming tail and a trail of smoke was flying ahead of the plane shortly after takeoff Monday.

Although the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is involved in the investigation, officials said they believe the object was a model rocket.

FAA spokesman Roland Herwig stated: " We don't know for sure what the object was. But we think it might be somebody doing model rocketing…..The pilot saw the rocket and some people saw the rocket's trail. Building rockets is a legitimate hobby, but hobbyists have to let the FAA know what they're doing. "

The pilot spotted the object flying at 5,000 feet about 11 miles east of George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston . Flight 1544 continued its trip from Houston to Cleveland after reporting the object to air traffic controllers. Scott Wilson, a spokesman for the FBI's Cleveland office, said in a story in The Plain Dealer that the plane wasn't in danger and landed safely. Continental Airlines spokeswoman Kelly Cripe declined to discuss what crew members had seen aboard the Boeing 737, which carried 148 passengers. The plane did not change course and was not damaged.

FBI spokeswoman Shauna Dunlap said::

"We don't know if it was a rocket or what…..We will interview everyone and determine the validity of what was seen. "

Robert Morehead, an engineer and president of the Amateur Spaceflight Association in Houston , said model rockets routinely can reach as high as 40,000 feet. He said model rocket enthusiasts are supposed to notify the FAA if a rocket is entering controlled airspace.

Laura Brown, an FAA spokeswoman in Washington D.C. told the Chronicle that model rockets have crossed paths with planes before but have never struck them. She also said that the Memorial Day holiday weekend was a good time for a launch.

Ministry Of Defence Starts UK UFO Archive Release (14th May 2008)

The National Archives (TNA) had a release scheduled for the 14th May, apparently there was an embargoed press announcement which was circulated from Monday. There was also an earlier pre-emptive warning circulated to the national press last week which was also embargoed.

The National Archives virtual press event - UFOs

The National ArchivesFor first time, The National Archives is making 8 Ministry of Defence (MoD) files relating to (Unidentified Flying Objects) UFOs available on Monday 12 May 2008.

The files will be available to download at no charge for the first month, online at the TNA website.

These are the first files to be released by the MoD as part of a 4-year transfer project relating to UFOs. The files are under embargo until the 00.01am 14 May 2008.

Visitors to the site will, in addition to downloading the files, be able to listen to a Podcast from Dr David Clarke, senior lecturer, Hallam University , discussing the files and the release. He has also written a background briefing on UFO files held at The National Archives.

There is also a short videocast from Nick Pope, a British UFO specialist presents a short videocast providing additional explanations. The files cover 1978 to 1987 and contain details on recorded incidents from the Ministry of Defence during this time.

Some of the highlights include:

DEFE 24/1925 - this file contains a long letter and drawings from a member of the public describing his 'physical and psychic contact' with green aliens since he was a child. One of them called Algar was killed in 1984 by another race of beings. The writer says that he visited their bases in the Wirral and Cheshire , whilst his wife reported seeing a UFO shot down over Wallasey Town.

DEFE 31/172 - On 21 February 1982, a group of customers and staff in Tunbridge Wells report an unknown object with green and red flashing lights - seen heading in the direction of Gatwick. (p.22)

DEFE 31/172 - A detailed briefing prepared by the Ministry of Defence for Lord Strabolgi, Government Chief Whip, for debate on UFO's in the House of Lords in January 1979. Paddy Stevens who briefed the Government spokesperson, said, "there is nothing to indicate that UFOlogy is anything but claptrap..." (Page 126-135)

Plus many more.

Indeed, far from this being a surprise it has been a long promised and much anticipated event, regular (and attentive!!) readers may remember that I posted about the MOD release back on the 24th December (2007), writing:

(UK) UFO Researchers Secure Release Of MoD UFO Documentation. “Following sustained pressure by a small number of UFO researchers during the last 8 years, the British Ministry of Defence have decided to release all of their UFO files. (For the full details of the planned release, visit: UK-UFO.org).

Visit: UK-UFO.org

Gary Anthony, Dave Clarke, and Joe McGonagle have been making full use of the Freedom of Information Act and its precursor, the Code of Practice on access to Government information. At considerable personal expense, effort, and investment of time the three of us have submitted a steady stream of requests. As well as making requests ourselves, we actively encouraged and assisted other ufologists to make their own requests.”

Click here to read the full post.

So when you read further articles or postings regarding this imminent disclosure, or when the release of these documents is finally realised, I urge you not to forget the efforts of Dave Clarke et al. Whose efforts are directly responsible for this landmark event, the results of their collective efforts should stand as irrefutable testimony to the enormity of what can be achieved with perseverance, dedication and determination.

In fact, why not visit their website at UK-UFO.org and thank them right now?

But I certainly wouldn't get too excited about the release and I feel it important to stress that there will be NO SMOKING GUN found, or even implications of such but that's not why this is such an interesting release. I personally believe it's such an interesting release so that the general public may finally have some inkling into the inner-workings of the MOD as it relates to UFO reports and I also believe the ineptitude and 'couldn't care less' attitude will prove to be more shocking than yet another ‘aliens stole my dog' report (which the media take a little too much delight in reporting on).

That's not to say there aren't any interesting cases included of course.....

Like the account from air traffic controllers, each with over eight years in the job, they reported that at 4 p.m. on April 19, 1984 a UFO landed at the airport they were working at then took off at an incredible speed.

The men, each with more than eight years on the job, described how they were helping guide a small plane to a landing on runway 22 when they were distracted by a brightly lit object approaching a different runway without clearance.

“Everyone became aware that the object was unidentified…..SATCO (code name for a controller with 14 years experience) reports that the object came in at speed, made a touch and go on runway 27, then departed at terrific speed in a near vertical climb.”

But of course this is merely one of the hundreds of *credible* reports that poses no kind of threat or no *defence significance* or so we're told. Still I don't doubt for a second that the conspiracy theorists will have a field day with what they think has been retained…..
