Multiple Witnesses to UFO - Stephenville, Texas (January 08th 2008)

The first most of us heard of the recent Texas UFO reports was when Associated Press (see above post) ran a story called, “Dozens in Texas Town Report Seeing UFO” on Monday (14th Jan) even though it was referring to UFO sightings that occurred the previous week on (January 08th 2008).

It has been very interesting to watch how the story propagated throughout the internet and is quickly becoming one of the most publicised UFO events of recent times. The independent witnesses already number quite a few and more are still surfacing along with corroborating video footage and photographs.

Out of the 30+ witnesses who have been identified there's a few which have to be classified as extremely credible, that's not to say the other witnesses aren't as credible but rather that the publics perception tend to favour the former. These witnesses are Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan, local business owner and pilot Steve Allen and an airport technician, I feel their credibility is a little more pronounced due to the fact that the Constable is for all intents & purposes a, “Trained observer” and the other two witnesses are experienced with aircraft which surely makes them less likely to misidentify a terrestrial aeroplane for an extraterrestrial craft. Also several civilians including business owners and reportedly a teacher all gave accounts which seem to concur on the basics of the sighting.

The general consensus of the witnesses was most definitely had seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast, also noticeable and mentioned by some of the witnesses were alternate red and white flashing lights as well as the fact that the object was extremely large and moving extremely fast!!

Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

Maj. Karl Lewis, a spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing at the Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station in Fort Worth , said no F-16s or other aircraft from his base were in the area the night of Jan. 8, when most people reported the sighting. Lewis said the object may have been an illusion caused by two commercial airplanes. Lights from the aircraft would seem unusually bright and may appear orange from the setting sun.

Officials at the region's two Air Force bases — Dyess in Abilene and Sheppard in Wichita Falls — also said none of their aircraft were in the area last week.

County Constable Gaitan said:

"I didn't see a flying saucer and I don't know what it was, but it wasn't an airplane, and I've never seen anything like it…..I think it must be some kind of military craft — at least I hope it was. I saw two red glows…..They glowed, and then they kind of faded and glowed again. And I looked again. I thought, 'That's just not right.' What was so astonishing was the speed that this thing took off…..I mean, it took off so fast…..It wasn't an airplane…..It wasn't a meteor, because it wouldn't have been bouncing around. It wasn't just one light…..I had never seen anything like that – never….. They danced around, appeared, reappeared…..I sat there watching three or four minutes, got my binoculars from the car …..I was having trouble keeping up with them. We counted nine or 10 of those strobe lights. They were spread out in the sky, about a half a mile, a quarter of a mile. And after a while, they formed a formation, not a single line; they were still flashing, but not bouncing around like they had been. And then it took off—it appeared they were attached, because they all left at the same time. Shot off in the northeast direction, at a very high-rate speed, I couldn't even keep up with the binoculars…..I'm thinking they were some kind of military manoeuvres, maybe some kind of experiment.”

By the time his 8-year-old son Ryan came outside, the red glow had turned bright white and Ryan adds that it looked faster than any jets he's seen.

Angela Joiner, a local newspaper reporter says that it's the talk of the town right now and several of the witnesses she sees every day, knows them personally and is absolutely sure that they all believe what they saw and that they are speaking the truth.

Steve Allen, Mike Odom and Lance Jones were out admiring a beautiful Texas sunset Tuesday evening when they saw something none of them can explain. Allen called it an unidentified flying object. And, because he's been a private pilot for more than 30 years, he has a little more experience judging air speeds and distances than most.

The phones haven't stopped ringing at Steve Allen's trucking company in nearby Glen Rose. He's the guy who was out Jan. 7 watching the sunset at a friend's house near Selden when they all saw some weird flashing lights.

He indicated that the craft was difficult to see, but based on the lights that appeared to be on the edges of the thing he estimated it to be about one mile long and a half-mile wide. The lights went from corner to corner. It was directly above Highway 67 travelling towards Stephenville at a high rate of speed - about 3,000 miles per hour is what I would estimate. No mention of how thin this thing was, but it's a large craft to be sure, and a fast one, something we certainly don't have in our military -- at least not that we're aware of anyhow.

Steve Allen, a 50-year-old pilot, was at a campfire with friends and says the object was a mile long and half a mile wide. “I don't know if it was a biblical experience or somebody from a different universe or whatever but it was definitely not from around these parts,” Allen said.

Allen drew a sketch of the object, which he said travelled at amazing speed without making a sound. While drawing, Allen told Von Fremd that he saw “an arch shape converted in a vertical shape, and then it split and made two of them, and then these turned into just fire and it was gone.”

While town officials search for a logical explanation such as an army aircraft, residents say the UFO was too big, too quiet, and flew too low to the ground to be a plane.

Stephenville, Texas - 1st Reports Of UFO Sightings (Jan 08 2008)

The first News article published on the current Texas UFO flap started with this article and then Peter Davenport of NUFORC published their two witness accounts (see post above).

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (AP) — In this farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO.

Several dozen people — including a pilot, county constable and business owners — insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," said Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide. "It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."

While federal officials insist there's a logical explanation, locals swear that it was larger, quieter, faster and lower to the ground than an airplane. They also said the object's lights changed configuration, unlike those of a plane. People in several towns who reported seeing it over several weeks have offered similar descriptions of the object.

Machinist Ricky Sorrells said friends made fun of him when he told them he saw a flat, metallic object hovering about 300 feet over a pasture behind his Dublin home. But he decided to come forward after reading similar accounts in the Stephenville Empire-Tribune.

"You hear about big bass or big buck in the area, but this is a different deal, " Sorrells said. "It feels good to hear that other people saw something, because that means I'm not crazy."

Sorrells said he has seen the object several times. He said he watched it through his rifle's telescopic lens and described it as very large and without seams, nuts or bolts.

"I'm 90 percent sure this was an airliner…..
With the sun's angle, it can play tricks on you."

Officials at the region's two Air Force bases — Dyess in Abilene and Sheppard in Wichita Falls — also said none of their aircraft were in the area last week. The Air Force no longer investigates UFOs.

About 200 UFO sightings are reported each month, mostly in California , Colorado and Texas , according to the Mutual UFO Network, which plans to go to the 17,000-resident town of Stephenville to investigate.

Fourteen percent of Americans polled last year by The Associated Press and Ipsos say they have seen a UFO.

Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan said that he first saw red glowing lights and then white flashing lights moving fast, but that even with binoculars could not see the object to which the lights were attached. "I didn't see a flying saucer and I don't know what it was, but it wasn't an airplane, and I've never seen anything like it," Gaitan said. "I think it must be some kind of military craft — at least I hope it was."

Report #1:

Flashing strobes, silent, flames out the back side and jets chasing it! On 1-8-2008 at 6:15 pm cst. my friends and I was watching the sunset when several strobes or flashing lights coming from the east at about 3500 foot agl heading west toward Stephenville , TX . Estimated speed was about 2000 to 3000 mph.

The strobes made several changes of flash patterns and configurations. The flight duration lasted about 3 minutes. The front two strobes was about 1/2 mile a part and the back ones was about 1 mile back from the front strobes. The back side of the flashing lights came to a vertical flashing. Then there was 2 separate vertical flames about 1/4 mile apart for several seconds and the craft was gone.

We never head ANY noise from the craft! They headed west towards Abilene , TX . Then about 10 minutes later here came the craft again with 2 jets chasing. They were headed east towards South Ft. Worth, TX, at about 4000 ft. agl. The jets were unable to catch and went off into the distance at FULL throttle.

I am a pilot and have been fling for 30 years and have never seen anything like this. I also fly several times a week in the area. The craft is NOT from around these parts!

The witnesses are 1. ((male name deleted) 254-((number deleted)), rancher/trucker 2. ((male name #2 deleted)) 254-((name deleted)), delivers mail for the U.S. Postal Service 3. Download New (Jan 11th, 2008) MUFON CARET Issac UFO Drone Investigation (PDF)

Download New (Jan 11th, 2008) MUFON CARET Issac Drone Investigation (PDF)

Download MUFON Investigation Of Drone Photos & CARET.
(PDF Document - Click Text)

A recent email sent out by James Carrion (MUFONs International Director) invited people to download their ongoing Drone investigation in Power Point format:
(Download the complete 2007 Drone Sightings History here.....)

"MUFON s Special Team Operations-VERITAS (STOV Team) has conducted a special investigation of the Drone Photos and CARET Documents. Although our investigation is ongoing, a preliminary report has been posted to the MUFON web site at: http://www.mufon.com/documents/Drones-CARET.ppt"

To say it was a disappointment is something of an understatement!! I only hope that there's a great deal more to divulge, I honestly have more recent, pertinent and relevant Drone related data on my desktop than what was contained in the Power Point presentation, as will every other forum member who classes themselves as a, "Dronie!!"

Kris –Saladfingers- Avery and Marc D'Antonio are both quoted and voice their opinions that the Drone images are undoubtedly CGI which while still relevant is news that is older than the majority of the sightings and images!! The document then goes on to detail the Kecksburg UFO crash in great detail drawing an incredibly tenuous link between it and the Drones which for the most part has to do with a, “Two decades” statement that Isaac wrote………

The most informative pages has following information on it:

“More Questions than Answers

  • Why would the U.S. Government seek commercial applications for a technology that has national security implications?
  • Why does Isaac express worry about his personal safety but then jokes about an IRS audit if found out?
  • Why are all the photo witnesses anonymous and hide behind Internet email addresses?
  • Why were no other corroborating reports filed with MUFON or NUFORC on the dates of the photo sightings?”

CARET similarities to MJ-12

  • Initial release of documentation triggers further release of information by whistleblowers
  • Gatekeepers –
  • MJ-12 –William Moore
  • CARET –Coast to Coast
  • Reference is made in MJ-12 EBD to other appendix documents by title. Similarly, CARET documents reference a PACL-D0006 ‘PACL Extraction Procedure Guide'
  • MJ-12 confirms Alien Roswell
  • CARET confirms Alien Kecksburg?

Down the Rabbit Hole Again

  • Who's behind these photos and documents?
  • A lot of time and effort was spent to produce the documents for no obvious monetary gain?
  • The Indisputable Truth as MUFON knows it
  • Roswell happened
  • Kecksburg happened
  • Active campaigns to disinform researchers and the public surround both of these landmark UFO events.
  • What secret is really being hidden? Extraterrestrial Life? Secret weapon?
  • The search for the real truth goes on…

Kris Avery has also said in a post at OMF that he's:

“Speaking to the producer of UFO Hunters, and the international director of Mufon about them using some or all of the drone music vid in one of the episodes. I said that it is fine if they would like to. I think that would be pretty cool.

The program will be about reverse engineering, and more specifically the Isaac docs and the drone case. Could be pretty cool. I'll be interested to see what slant they take on it.”

Ahhh, it's all becoming a little clearer now, I wonder if this new release of old information is anything other than a well-timed marketing ploy? After all, there's no point making a UFO programme if there's nobody interested now is there? Still, probably just my suspicious mind……..

You're a little late and have some catching up to do but,
Welcome to the party boys…….

Edit to add: James Carrion has recently posted at OMF stating that the:

“Powerpoint presentation we have posted on the Internet was created expressly for briefing the stars of the show on what MUFON knew about DRONES/CARET. That also explains why there are fewer details/notes in the presentation as we had to keep it concise to fit their shooting timeframe. Our follow up MUFON Journal article will contain the details of our investigation.”

Perhaps there's hope yet.....

YouTube Video Shows UFO sighting by Marines In Iraq (Jan, 2008)

On the 5th January, YouTube user, “Brintonsdad” (BD) uploaded a video clip of a squad of Marines on patrol in Iraq who capture on video something that at the present time are unable to explain.

The information that was posted to accompany the video was as follows:

“On the night of January 2nd 2008 a group of Marines on patrol in Iraq have a close encounter of the first kind with...?”

UFOs sighted by Marines in Iraq

BD is genuinely as intrigued by the footage as everyone else seems to be and says that personally he's leaning towards some sort of meteorological phenomenon although at the moment he has no idea what that may be!! BD has even contacted a meteorologist and the general consensus seems to be that they are a phenomenon know as, “Light Pillars”.

Multiple Light Pillars Created From Artificial Lighting

(Source: apod.nasa.gov)

BD says that the footage was posted to him over the internet by his Nephew who is a squad leader currently serving in Iraq and details are sketchy as he was (and still is) on active assignment. BD thinks that the footage is most likely captured in the Eastern part of the country.

A light pillar is a visual phenomenon created by the reflection of light from ice crystals, if the light is from the sun then it's commonly known as a sun/solar pillar. This phenomenon is similar to, “Sundogs” which reveal that the clouds are hosting horizontal plate crystals, the plates drift slowly downwards like a falling leaf with their large faces almost exactly horizontal, causing the visual effect. In light pillars those crystals with plate or column shapes provide an excellent surface from which the light may reflect toward the viewer's eyes. They can also occur at night but under these circumstances they require a bright source of light which can sometimes be provided by powerful terrestrial sources (such as street/security lamps) or more commonly by the moon.

The light pillar theory is certainly a possibility and one I feel shouldn't be ruled out, especially as January is noted as being one of the coldest months in Iraq with the temperature often dropping below freezing which would certainly facilitate the forming of the ice crystals in the clouds, allowing for the formation of light pillars, and of course the lights certainly are in the clouds.

A lot of the YouTube user comments mention spotlights, I feel that spotlights can be safely ruled out for many reasons, the main two being I'm sure the Marines would be aware of them if it were the case and of course why on earth would there be spotlights in Iraq at all?

Natural Light Pillar

(Source:skychasers.net)

The glow you can see at the bottom of the screen (in the original video) is a small town and is apparently unrelated to the light sources in the sky (unless of course it's the source of the light which is hitting the ice crystals in the sky and causing the effect) unfortunately due to the night vision it can't be determined if the light sources are the same colour as if they were then that would obviously lean towards the, "Light pillar" theory being correct.

EDIT TO ADD - Not long after posting this I received a comment by an Italian Blogger called, “RL”. (See comments at bottom of page). RL provided a link to quite an extensive website (CAELESTIA – Latin, "Affairs of the heavens”) documenting many unidentified aerial phenomena and attempts to explain them in more prosaic terms. While undoubtedly there will be some UFOs/UAPs that will still resist any kind of explanation I personally feel that we MUST consider all known earthly possibilities before any kind of opinion can be formed.

While I hasten to add that of course, “Light pillars” present a possible explanation rather than a definite one I'd like to thank RL for the link and I include it here as I found it very informative.

“The present study is a first attempt to bring together sightings from different parts of the world. In the process of unearthing this material, it was found that the ignorance surrounding the phenomenon persists to this day. Because of this, reports of light pillars have sparked unwarranted speculation, not only from ufologists and conspirationalists (who are inclined to attribute the sightings to extraterrestrial spaceships or secret military tests), but also among astronomers and meteorologists (who sometimes mistake them for auroral pillars, a specific type of aurora that shows as vertical streaks of light). A situation that is hard to understand, especially in the light of the findings published by the early amateur astronomers cited above.”

UK - UFOs in Tyneside now UFOs in Wearside!! (Jan 10th, 2008)

Typical isn't it, there's been no real reports of UFO activity in the North East for quite a while and now two separate local Newspapers decide to run a story about UFOs on the same day!!

The first one called, “North UFO Encounters" by the Journal and the title of the second article in the Gazette asks: “Why is Sunderland a UFO hotspot?”

I would have to ask: “What led to this opinion?” as truth be known the amount of UFOs reported in the Sunderland area could be described as minimal at best, and if you cast a critical eye over these reports the amount (that in my opinion) warrant further investigation are negligible to non-existent, especially over the last year with the most memorable one being dismissed as Venus within a couple of days.

Having said that I sort of understand where the writer (Mike Hallowell) is coming from and if I'm honest the article seems overly diluted but it would appear that this is a necessary evil in order to maintain the interest of the average reader. And it's certainly a nice change to see a local rag at least hinting at the origins and motivations of the UFO phenomenon rather than questioning the existence of it.

I commented several times towards the end of last year that the media in general is taking a less critical approach to UFO sightings and reports, whether this in itself is a conscious decision, a case of following the lead of others or perhaps a signifier of a more publicly tolerant media stance, who can tell?

Perhaps soon we will see a local newspaper entertaining the possibility that they are not extraterrestrial craft as we currently understand them. Perhaps that the phenomenon is a trans-dimensional one, or that UFOs are no more than a result of the collective, fractured human psyche, an involuntary projection of our primal fear or an externalization of these fears, one that is given structure, form and physicality by its respective beholders?

Hopefully these articles are an indicator if things to come, or it could just be a slow news week………….

UK - Why is Sunderland a UFO hotspot? – Shields Gazette (Jan 10 2008)

Why is Sunderland a UFO hotspot?

RECENTLY there has been a flurry of UFO sightings over the Sunderland area.

To some, this may be disturbing. After all, no one likes to entertain the idea that our skies are being filled with alien invaders from a distant solar system. Personally, however, I quite like the notion that we are entertaining visitors from beyond.

Overall there has been a decline in flying saucer activity in the UK, and if our friends from the other side of the galaxy suddenly got bored with us and stopped coming, then we may never find out who (or what) they are, and why they found planet earth so fascinating in the first place.

One of the big problems with the concept that we are being visited by alien life forms is the distance they would have to travel to reach us. The nearest star to us is more than four light years away, and this means that even if aliens could travel at the speed of light, it would still take them over four years to get here.

Some researchers have postulated that there may be "worm holes" in space, which could acts as portals between one solar system and another. The idea is that you pop into one worm hole and hey, presto, before you know it, you pop out of another millions of light years away, without having to travel the distance in between.

Of course, this notion is still but a theory. Personally, I believe that UFOs probably have their origins much closer to home. It seems unlikely that they originate on another planet in our own solar system, as there are no signs of alien civilisations on Mars, Venus or the other worlds in our vicinity.

Another problem is that life as we know it would probably find it difficult to survive in the hostile conditions those planets present. Is it possible, though, that UFOs could have their origin right here on planet earth? This may not be as strange an idea as one might imagine. For years there have been rumours that there are subterranean worlds hidden under the north and south poles that could house civilisations whose existence we are unaware of.

If such civilisations do indeed exist, they could, theoretically speaking, be in possession of advanced technologies that enable them to build aircraft far beyond our own understanding, and using propulsion systems we can only dream of. Another reason for thinking that the "aliens" may be related to us is the biological similarities between UFO occupants and human beings.

Put aside their strange skin colour, large eyes and antennae, aliens are normally described as having a head, torso, two legs, two arms and facial features pretty much the same as our own. If aliens are similar to us, if not identical, then we can probably assume that they are related to us in the same way that horses and pigs, although not identical, are both mammals and occupy places reasonably close to each other on the evolutionary tree.

If you're ever lucky enough to see the occupant of a UFO, it's a fascinating thought that you may not be staring at an alien from outer space, but a long-lost cousin. Why haven't our ethereal visitors contacted us formally and announced their existence officially to the world?

Well, look at it this way; if you had the chance of making friends with a bunch of people who behave as badly as we humans do, wouldn't you think twice about it?

Police Chief Witness To UFO Crash (Jan 2008)

I saw a strange story yesterday (Jan 08 th 2008) and I've been waiting to see if there would be any kind of follow-up printed anywhere. The story of an, “Alleged” crashed UFO appeared in the Politics(?) section of the Interfax website, a news website who since the early 90's has been the main provider of news from Russia and other countries from the former Soviet Union. Often quoted by many other News organisations as well as breaking most of the major Russian news reports.

Anyway, the article that caught my attention had the headline, “UFO allegedly splashed down in Kazakhstan” and was as follows.

----------------------------------

UFO allegedly splashed down in Kazakhstan

Jan 8 2008 1:47PM

PAVLODAR . Jan 8 (Interfax) - An unidentified flying object might have fallen in the Belaya river in the May district in the Pavlodar region, northern Kazakhstan , a source with the regional emergency situations department told Interfax referring to an eye-witness.

The chief of a local police department saw a shining flying object falling in the river in the early hours of January 5, the source said, adding that the policeman "reported about it to higher authorities."

According to the emergency situations department, divers examined a 15-meter air hole and officers of the local sanitary and epidemic office took water samples.

"Divers plunged four times, but no objects were found. Water samples are normal," the department said.

Meanwhile, Lyubov Rybalko, an ufologist and the head of the Asur public organization, told Interfax that an UFO cannot fall. They "can either land or pass through the Earth like through air." It is possible that an UFO splashed down in the Belaya river, the ufologist said..

----------------------------------

Pavlodar, Kazakhstan
Pavlodar, Kazakhstan

It appears that no other News channel has touched this, whether that be due to the lack of information, lack of communication or because of the apparent scarcity of corroborative evidence remains to be seen, but besides the original report the only places I've seen it posted or even mentioned so far is exclusively within the online UFO community.

I feel that regardless of how spurious the account seems you have to appreciate that if the report is accurate then a chief of the local Police Force was the witness and if this is the case then the testimony must carry a little more weight than if it was your average citizen. And surely the account must carry enough weight to merit further coverage. Especially if the, “Emergency situations department” felt the witness account apparently carried enough weight to send in divers and the, “Sanitary and epidemic office” felt it appropriate to collect water samples for testing.

Only time will tell I suppose but if the details and the witness account are accurate then it may be a story that's worth keeping an eye on.....
