Photographs of Black Triangle UFO - Greenville, South Carolina - March 2010

Black Triangle UFO - (March 2010) Greenville, South Carolina [Original Report]

PLEASE NOTE: This is the first of two Blog posts with the second part to follow shortly, this is due to several factors with the main one being the space constraints when posting information such as this to a Blog, however I am alsocurrently waiting for replies to emails I sent out a couple of days ago, and whilst the replies are not really essential to posting further research they would be a great help in being able to state definitively the correlations between these recent images and much, much earlier ones which were alleged to be of a suspect nature.

A little over a week ago back on the 18th March (2010) UFOCasebook (as well as apparently a couple of other websites) published two images of a black triangle captured with an unusually high quality and claimed to have been photographed two days earlier on the 16th March.

It would seem that the ‘witness' emailed several UFO-related websites (I am still awaiting a definite confirmation for this) but it first came to my attention when UFOCasebook published the witness account & images in their entirety:

Compelling Photographs of Triangle Taken over Greenville, South Carolina

Published: 8:55 AM 3/18/2010

Greenville, SC - 03-16-10

On March 16, 2010... I saw a bright red light coming from a distance. I thought that maybe an airline plane was on fire, and grabbed my camera. Instead, it was a large triangle plane with a very bright, red strobe in the center of it, (almost like it was on fire). It seemed to be climbing in altitude. By the time I went to the backyard, it already entered the clouds and was gone!

This happened in Greenville, South Carolina at 8:03 PM.

Thank you,

Mr. H

Image/s source:

Upon request the images were quickly supplied as received by B.J. Booth at UFOCasebook complete with metadata intact, and as you can see from the EXIF data there was a time lapse of 13 seconds in between capturing them:

In the following images I've left the pole just in shot so you can differentiate between the two images (i.e. one on the right and one on the left side of the pole/support which is centred in the image) and I tried to clean them up a little and here they are lightly filtered and enlarged:

Greenville - Black Triangle UFO zoom

Greenville - Black Triangle UFO zoom

And a couple of quick animations to give an idea of the distance the object travelled (as stated by the witness) which are unfortunately too large to post so:

And finally after a cursory check with a more powerful EXIF tool (snoop) it would appear that the image if tampered with (post-processing) was then subsequently edited to remove any trace of this as there doesn't seem to be any (obvious) digital remnants which would indeed suggest the image had been modified:

ASSESSMENT: Class 3 - Image has high probability of being original

However and for all there was no conflicting evidence contained within the embedded data when I looked at the original images they screamed fake to me, but I fear I am not really proficient enough when it comes to CG to say definitively or specifically if or why that's what they are. This is partly why I resorted to analysing the data that accompanied the image (although this is usually first on my ‘to do' list anyway) a task which I pursued to see if there were any discrepancies between this image and other known images from the same camera/settings, be that in the actual image or the hidden data that accompanies it. I do appreciate and understand that it is possible (although more difficult than people may realise) to manually edit the EXIF and then remove all traces of the process. By this I mean edit the image in such a fashion that when finished the jpeg compression tables as well as chrominance and several other tables all of which are embedded in the image by default (when first digitized) appear exactly as they do in images known not to have been altered.

I have come across the data being removed to further a deception prior to this but not in the same way as those images were suspected of being hoaxes because the embedded was stripped of a couple of fields that would have betrayed any manipulation, but to date and after having checked several images from the same camera model there have been no discrepancies at all contained within the embedded metadata.

So, back to the images and when I looked at them the circular flame section just looks unreal, artificial, almost as if superimposed onto the triangular objects:

Greenville - Black Triangle UFO

Actually it instantly reminded me of the devil/hell scenes in SouthPark where they (intentionally!!) have a similar kind of cheap-looking computer generated flame effect:

UFO - South-Park flame effect

So in short while the actual photographs while decent are not really exceptional and don't have *that* much realism about them, a prime example of which being the synthetic-looking flame effect, but also just how the object/s appear against the sky or more specifically it doesn't appear to sit right in neither the sky or the photograph.

So this is what really got me interested in the first place, i.e. that there seems to be an inconsistency between what the evidence shows and what the embedded data in the image tells us and it piqued my interest enough to research the background of the images a little further.

And after researching the images/witness account or more importantly contrasting and comparing with several earlier reports (from a couple of years ago) some interesting and arguably quite damning similarities regarding certain aspects of this report (& witness) turned up.

However, as explained at the top of this post due to waiting for more information (via email) and because of the inevitable space constraints when posting information such as this to a Blog, I will post the second part of any relevant research and/or information within the next couple of days…..

Lens Flare - UFO ‘fleet' Photographed in Annapolis (March 2010)

UFO ‘fleet' Photographed in Annapolis, Maryland (March 19th 2010)

There has been a set of images doing the rounds lately that seem to be gathering some momentum. I was aware of these images when they were originally posted to Mufon Case Management System (CMS).

The images were captured on March 19th and submitted on March 24th , there were three images in total, the second and third images were original size and the first one was a cropped/zoomed image which showed blue translucent lights in the sky (LITS) the witness states he enhanced the dark areas on the images.

The CMS submission contained the following witness account:

UFO fleet of blue translucent discs over St. John's College in Annapolis Maryland

Annapolis Mufon CMS report - Click to enlarge

I am a local photographer in Annapolis, Md. I was doing a night shoot on the practice fields of St. John's College at 21:16:54 on 3/19/10. I was using a nikon D 700 with a 70-200 mm 2.8 professional lens mounted on a tripod. I didn't open the files to edit the images until Sunday 3/21/10. When I enhanced the dark areas around the buildings on campus I noticed approximately 9 light blue orbs with a corona like halo around them. The orbs were positioned in front and back of the end of the roof line. This was image #1. Image # 2 revealed approximately 9 light blue translucent discs each with a bright light blue beacon on top. They appeared to be in a loose formation, banking to the right and departing the area. Image # 3 revealed the formation in the open night sky over Annapolis at a slightly higher altitude. The objects were now in the shape of a of a slightly flattened bell with a bright light blue beacon on top. Several of the objects had a slight maroon hue to them.

Unfortunately there is no way to link directly to the Mufon CMS report page containing the witness account & images and as I don't want to leech their bandwidth if you wish to view/download them the full size images are easily retrieved via the search function which can be found on the tool bar to the left of the main page on the Mufon CMS page (here).

However *Mufon Of N.J.* website posted the account along with one of the full-sized images, both of which can be viewed here.

And to view the images at a more manageable size of 800px then use the following links:

  1. 22466_submitter_file1__UFO1CloseCrop.jpg
  2. 22466_submitter_file2__UFO2.jpg
  3. 22466_submitter_file3__UFO3.jpg

Here are the three images on top of each other in chronological order (as pre-numbered & submitted):

They are of course massively reduced in size but it makes no difference to the point I wish to draw your attention to, namely how the angle of the camera changes (pans up) from one image to the next then you can clearly see that this causes the LITS to appear incrementally higher with each sequential image.

And now have another look at the following image which is the second of the set (submitted at original size) and which I've cropped:

Maryland UFO/Lens Flare - Click to enlarge

Now have a look at the same image with guide-lines I've added from the lights on the ground to the LITS:

Maryland UFO/Lens Flare - Click to enlarge

And the following image was the first one of the set (cropped by witness) again with guide-lines I've added:

Maryland UFO/Lens Flare - Click to enlarge

Due to the obvious correlation between the two sets of lights (ground & sky) and the fact that all of the guide-lines I added intersect at a fixed point and are of an equal distance from the intersect leaves me in no doubt whatsoever that what we are looking at is lens flare caused by the fixed lighting which is located at the bottom of the images.

When multiple lens flares are present such as in these images the shape and size of the reflection depends on both the nature of the light source and the specifications of the camera which is used (curvature of the lens & type of aperture). And as in the above example both the light source and the flare are generally located on a line that crosses the centre of the photograph (between the light source and corresponding flare) as well as being located at an equal distance on either side of the centre (again which is evidenced above by where the multiple guide-lines intersect).

(UK) South Harrow UFO Photographed - Flickr (2009)

The following caught my eye recently as it’s not the usual ‘run of the mill’ photograph of a UFO, it was originally posted to Flickr then subsequently picked up by the Harrow Observer who added further details to the report on the 6th April (2009).

Harrow Observer UFO

UFO spotted in South Harrow

A mysterious light in the skies above South Harrow has been captured on film by an amateur photographer. The unidentified flying object appeared through the clouds at about 7.45pm on March 31 and was snapped by computer network engineer Ahmad Zaigham.

Mr Zaigham posted the picture on website Flickr where he said that he had spotted the alien ship out his window.

(Original Image)

He said: "The light coming from this thing is something I have never seen the like. I don't think any aircraft has a light like this…..And moments after this shot the object seemed to quickly fade in light and travel above at high speed. I did not hear any loud sound but I did hear a whistle kind of sound. I am still shocked."

Mr Zaigham said he may pass the picture on to Nasa.

Source: Harrow Observer

Mr Zaigham posted the following account to his Flickr account under the pseudonym, "SHUTTER-MOORGH".

“This Alien ship I spotted outside my window on the 31st march 2009 at 7:45:57 pm. The light coming from this thing is something I have never seen the like. I don’t think any aircraft has a light like this. And moments after this shot the object seemed to quickly fade in light and travel above at high speed. I did not hear any loud sound but I did hear a whistle kind of sound. I am still shocked.”

Zaigham also states that: “Yes this is the only picture i got. The ship was flying fast above and on the right side around 20 degree angle.”

However after checking the Flickr account in question it struck me as a little suspicious that Mr Zaigham is a member of a multitude of UFO orientated Flickr groups, has a sound photographic knowledge and high-end photography equipment and yet only managed one image of the object, which when coupled with the fact that (as quoted above) the first line of the description states somewhat unequivocally that Mr Zaigham believes the object is indeed an, “Alien ship”.

I am admittedly occasionally (!) overly cynical concerning such matters but personally I would attach a great deal more credence to the photograph if the image wasn’t (apparently) cropped and of course if access to the original was granted so that the exposure time (amongst other things) could be verified.....

UK - The Sun Has Best UFO Proof Yet (Again)

A strange image was published by the Sun newspaper (via Gary Heseltine) which they stated was photographed at Dudley castle 'last April'.

To be honest I've purposefully refrained from posting any of the Sun newspapers UFO stories, mainly because they were caught out a couple of months ago and admitted intentionally lying to their readers, this was defended by claiming they were just, “Having a little fun” with their long suffering readership.

But prior to this wholly unsurprising revelation about their lack of ethical integrity their previous track-record in reporting UFO related stories was equally wanting. The stories were always misleading and they consistently contacted several UFO researchers and inevitably quoted the one researcher who agreed there was something anomalistic about the 'exclusive' photograph they'd been sent, usually insinuating (if not stating outright) that any/all objects captured were of obvious extraterrestrial origin.

UFO picture is 'best proof yet'

The Sun UK UFO ImageA “FLYING saucer” is photographed in daylight over a town — in a snap hailed as one of the most important ever pieces of evidence of alien life. The UFO shot across the sky in front of clouds above Dudley in the West Midlands . A startled visitor to Dudley Castle captured the amazing image, and sent it to a police detective who collects UFO sightings. Yesterday DC Gary Heseltine, 48, said:

“It's a very intriguing photograph that was taken purely by chance…..If it's genuine then it could be one of the most convincing pieces of evidence about aliens from the UK ever.”

The photo was taken by a 57-year-old nanny on a day out last April. DC Heseltine, of Wakefield , West Yorks, has now handed it over for study to a former US navy physicist who specialises in photo analysis. The British Transport Police officer will reveal the findings at the UFO Data Magazine annual conference in Pontefract, West Yorks , on October 25.

(Virginia Wheeler - 20 Oct 2008)
The Sun

Gary Heseltine is no stranger to the UFO subject and runs the, “PRUFOS (POLICE REPORTING UFO SIGHTINGS) DATABASE” website which collects and catalogues UFO reports from police officers while both on and off duty.

It's more than likely that the, “Former UFO Navy physicist ” is none other than the inimitable Dr. Bruce Maccabee, the following is a brief excerpt from his Bio page: "Studied physics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass (B.S. in physics) and then at The American University, Washington, DC (M.S. and Ph. D. in physics)…..1972 commenced his long career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center…..has worked on optical data processing, generation of underwater sound with lasers and various aspects of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) using high power lasers… in UFO research since late 1960s when he joined the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP)….active in research and investigation for NICAP until its demise in 1980…..became a member of MUFON in 1975…..appointed to the position of state Director for Maryland, a position he still holds…..1979 he was instrumental in establishing the Fund for UFO Research…..chairman for about 13 years…..presently serves on the National Board of the Fund.."

In fact even if it isn't Bruce Maccabee then I still strongly urge you to check out his personal pages as his investigative analysis is consistently methodical in approach and execution and as such is testament to the rigorous protocols employed in his previous investigations. And as well of course as (usually!!) making for fascinating reading.

Of course there's so little information available and the image posted to the Sun website is compressed to such an extent that no manipulation could bring out any more detail than is already evident, but when Bruce Maccabee receives the original then he will certainly be able to (at least) ‘yay or nay' its validity, i.e. whether its actually a genuine image and also whether or not it's a physical object. But whether it's an object in the sky, a camera artefact or even a rogue cloud formation I found it to be one of the more aesthetically pleasing and interesting images that has been posted online for a while.....

UFO Images & Phantom Planes

Paranormal photographs and UFO Images

Seeing as Halloween is almost upon us I thought I'd share some stories that lean more towards ‘paranormal' than 'Ufological' as well of course as the usual UFO related fodder. Anyway, I happened across a classic TV programme recently and one which I remember watching in my youth. It's a UK production called, “Strange But True – Encounters” and was fronted by Michael Aspel. This particular episode looked at the problems that trick photography, misperception and hoax images facing UFO & paranormal researchers face as well as several genuinely unexplained anomalies and photographs which still resist an defy any explanation.

Including a brief look at ghost images, UFO images, Bigfoot video, NASA footage, Manhattan UFO and a remarkable image of a squadron with the ghostly apparition of a their Naval mechanic who had died three days previous to the image being taken. Also shows a 'classic' UFO video taken at Nellis test range footage including an audio snippet of pilots discussing it. Includes Robert Irving, a Fortean Times writer and the landed UFO image he created for an article he'd wrote which was later claimed to be a genuine photograph.

The Phantom Planes Of The Derbyshire Dales

The second half of the episode goes on to discuss, “Phantom Planes” and airs an interview with Tony Ingle. Tony, who when walking his golden retriever saw a (silent) wartime aircraft pass about 50 feet above him, it appeared to be experiencing difficulties and also looked as if it came down in a nearby field, this was in April 1995!!

“It was very eerie...I could see the propellers going round but there was no sound…..It was getting lower and lower and I thought, this thing's going to crash.....It was bizarre...I could see it was banking as if trying to turn, and then it seemed to go down just over a hedge. I ran up the lane to see if I could see anything. I expected a plane to be in the field but there was nothing...just lambs and sheep. Everything was silent, you could hear a pin drop...”

The B-29 Bomber and its distinctive four propellors.

Includes footage of Tony Ingle returning to Aston Lane as he does frequently and his golden retriever (Ben) refusing to go anywhere near the field where they saw the plane and where it appeared to crash.

Phantom Airmen

The show also features rare interview footage with a Mr. Gerald Scarratt, whom originally witnessed the aftermath of the B-29 crash as a Glossop schoolboy in 1948. Gerald returned to the wreck with his son a quarter of a century later and discovered a gold ring engraved with the name of the plane's captain, Langdon P. Tanner. After the discovery was publicised, a group of aircraft enthusiasts asked Scarratt to show them the place where he found the ring, and he agreed to take them up to the crash site on Bleaklow, but when he bent down to show them where he had found the ring and looked up they had ‘scarpered' and were ten or fifteen yards away.

When he caught up with them they were ashen-faced. They said they had seen someone standing behind him, looking down and dressed in full flying uniform. Gerald told them he had seen nothing, but they said: "We've all seen him, thanks for taking us up, but we are going ."

Gerald has never seen or heard from any of them again!!

UK UFO researcher, Dr. David Clarke wrote about these and other incidents for his 1999 book, “Supernatural Peak District” in a chapter titled, “Ghost Fliers”. David has also made this particular chapter available at his website under the, “Supernatural Folklore” section which also includes photographs of the area and of the aeroplane in question.

UFO Photographed 10th September 2007 – Rugby UK

UFO Report Rugby , Warwickshire, England. (10th September 2007)

Submitted to UFO Casebook by Geoff Pottle

The above image was submitted to, with this accompanying email.

“This photo was taken at about 2.30pm on 10th September 2007 just out in my back garden. The weather was clear, warm and almost cloudless.

I was just really testing out how my digital camera would take the sun, and without really looking (more point and hope). (I did not at any point look directly into the sun for obvious reasons). Anyhow after transfering a couple of shots on the last picture I saw a shape in the bottom left of the image. Wasn`t sure if it was a plane or a satellite maybe?

Thank you.”
